Having an established client base in Massachusetts and Rhode Island, at the start of 2003 IWI obtained its Connecticut private investigators license. That same year, IWI solidified its affiliation with EMS Investigative located in Eustis, Florida. Since then, a number of joint investigations have been conducted.
In January, 2006, Nicky Fernandes, President of IWI, was issued his US Coast Guard Captain's License.
Being a long-time auto fraud investigator and boat owner, IWI began marketing its ability to conduct marine investigations.
In May, 2007, a corporate investigation carried out by IWI resulted in the indictment of four individuals on embezzlement charges in excess of $100,000.
In November, 2008, Nick was asked by a major insurance carrier located in Farmington, CT, to speak to their claims representatives regarding the "Investigative Process." A Power Point presentation was done regarding the inside workings of how an investigation is conducted. Since then, IWI has conducted several more of these presentations to clients in MA & RI.
In July, 2010, IWI was featured in Rhode Island Monthly Magazine.
During the summer months of 2011, due to the successful outcome of three of our workers compensation investigations, all three were submitted to the RI Workers Compensation Fraud Unit for follow up investigations.
In April, 2012, IWI was hired to conduct a theft investigation by a large commercial roofing company. After conducting several surveillance during the early morning hours at the facility, an employee was identified. A meeting with local police then took place during which evidence gathered was presented. The employee was then arrested the following morning.
During June, 2015, IWI was hired by a local RI municipality and was successful identifying out of district students attending town schools.
On August 15, 2017, our Senior Investigator and second longest tenured employee celebrated his 20th anniversary with IWI.
During August and September, 2017, multiple investigators were utilized to conduct an extensive surveillance based investigation for a large defense contractor involving job related activities. Upon conclusion, the results ended the employment of a senior level employee.
During the fall months of 2017, IWI was contacted by a national company with 47 locations throughout the country to conduct an investigation of FMLA abuses at one of their facilities. During this investigation, extensive surveillance was also conducted that led to the identification of a separate business owned by the offender that accounted for the abuses. The results ended in termination of the employee who was also a union official.
During the spring of 2018, IWI was retained to assist a prominent Rhode Island law firm which resulted in one of the largest verdicts in state history.
In October, 2019, retired RI State Police Colonel Brendan Doherty released a book entitled "It's Just The Way It Was" which chronicled Organized Crime in the state of RI. One of the chapters in the book discusses a previous investigation that Nick conducted leading to the arrest of an individual found stealing gold from his employer.
